Very good information Gagan!! Just one question from me - If the application is completely new and there is no knowledge base available to gather and assess NFRs, how can we design the WLM for such applications>
In that case, first you need get the client expectation in layman's term (like no. of expected users, no. of order placed in a day, expected response time of each page etc.). If his expectation is too high with big numbers then design the workload model with 25% or 50% load first and analysis the result. If results are in your favor then apply full load else provide your recommendations that application is unable to handle X users load, so tuning is required otherwise expected NFR can not be met.
Sometimes, test approach with gradual increase in the load also applied and results are noted at each step like 10 Users, 20 Users, 50 Users, 100 Users until application is failed. Once you get the break-point of the application then discuss the same with client whether the break-point is as per his expectation or not.
Good to see such a valuable information Gagan....just want to know is there any dummy/sample Test plan(word/pdf doc) by covering of all above 14 points to get quick analysis of each point..i mean 1 point covers this,2 point covers this..like that manner?
Hi Gagandeep thanks a lot for such valuable info. can you please share the test plan doc and NFR doc as per industry standard to neha88.dahiya@gmail.com
Thanks for the quick response and i'm happy for this as i post my concerns in other blogs but some times i got response(late) and some times not but haven't see such a quick response blog ever.
Am looking for job change can sent am email, if u heard any openings for performance testing and engineering mail Id : prempftesting@gmail.com exp 6.3 years.. thanks in advance

Hi Gagan, may i know the difference between test strategy and test plan ? if they are differ what we can cover under them individually?
ReplyDeleteTest Strategy is an art of creating the approach which signifies "How performance testing will be conducted?".
DeleteTest Plan is a document comprising of 'test strategy' and 'other details' like NFR, risk, dependency, stakeholders etc.
